One of my friends daughters recently asked me some questions for a school project about being an artist. As I was thinking about the questions and my answers I could see how this might be valuable insight to others looking to get into the art world so I am putting the questions and answers up online here.
Life is interesting now days. I have moved out of my studio and am trying to adjust to having my space located in the corner of the living room. My normal way of working is to be alone with people coming by to visit rather than in the thick of things.
I’m finding it hard to so much painting, but I am spending time being crative. I am spending most of my time writing. I have a couple of things going on.
One is writting a set of journals for my daughter. I am finding this to be one of the most rewarding projects I have ever done. Right now I am doing two different journals one is more general with stories of her life right now and stories about my wife and I. The other one focuses on surviving her teen years and her transition into an adult.
My other project is a fictional journal that includes some stories along with drawings and paintings. I have always been interested in story telling so I decided to jump in and write a book.
While I have been slowin paintings of my own I have a good excuse. This time last year I became a dad. These days most of my creativity is going into teaching my daughter and helping her develope into a creative individual.
One of the cool activities we have done is her first painting class. Here she first used any kind of tools as well as started to experament with different ways to create images.
I am currently working on / revisiting my ideas on ewik.com. It has always been just about the art and my journal has been a subset, but now that life is ever changing I thought I might just make the site more about me being a creative person in general. Now that I have a wife and a daughter how will my life change? Over the past couple of years I have not painted like I once did. I work a day job as a designer for a software company and get to the studio when I can. I really only get time to paint a limited number of paintings in a year. I also have some ideas for projects that are not directly related to the paintings I have done and thought it would be cool to post about that stuff as well as raising a daughter.
